The perfect pair at Canto Wines

Canto Wines, a boutique wine estate situated in the rolling hills of Durbanville just outside of Cape Town, has launched an appetizing new pairing for its wines. A carefully selected set of Methode Cap Classiques have been paired with perfectly crafted macarons, bringing out the intensity of flavour in both the bubbly and the sweet treats.

canto wine estate vineyard and tasting room

Opened to the public in January 2018, Canto Wines sits adjacent to the renowned Meerendal Wine Estate and focuses its efforts on a number of elegant wines including an unwooded chardonnay, a merlot, a sauvignon blanc and four varietals of MCC bubbly – a chardonnay, a pinot noir, a shiraz and a chardonnay pinot noir blend.

The bubble and macaron pairing focuses on these four varietals of MCC, bringing forward the subtle flavours of the vines through the distinctly different macarons.

The Canto Chardonnay MCC Brut’s buttery and earthy flavours of the bubbly are highlighted by the rich nutty taste of a hazelnut macaron, while the Shiraz Rose MCC Brut is paired with a red velvet macaron, where the fullness of raspberry and spicy flavours in the fizz is enhanced by the melt in your mouth texture of the biscuit.

A salted caramel macaron, a sweet and savoury combination, is offers a burst of freshness alongside the Canto Chardonnay/Pinot Noir MCC Brut. Lastly, but the firm favourite of the pairing, is the Canto Pinot Noir MCC Brut served with a Turkish delight macaron. This macaron has a slight rosewater or muscat flavour that complements the delicate strawberry flavours of the Pinot Noir MCC.
