McLaren P1 coming to SA
The McLaren P1 to be flown over for the Rogue Rally.
The Rogue Rally is honoured to announce that the Daytona Group and SAP will be flying in a McLaren P1, all the way from the UK to South Africa, the car will be escorted by a full McLaren team and their chief test driver, Chris Goodwin.
The Rogue Rally is a 2800 km trip around South Africa’s best roads running from the 21st – 27th September 2014. Not quite a speed race, not quite a road trip; it’s, a living breathing exotic car road show. This is the Rogue Rally 2014, Race Edition.
Worth over R21 Million, the McLaren P1 is one of the worlds only Hypercars, an honour bestowed on the highest performing supercars. There are currently only 5 or 6 hypercars in the world. It’s rare, it’s unbelievable and it’s on the Rogue Rally.
The Daytona Group (importers of McLaren, Aston Martin and Rolls Royce) has partnered with SAP to bring this technological masterpiece to South African shores.
The latest creation from McLaren has a clear goal – to be the best driver’s car in the world on road and track. To achieve this objective, McLaren is using all of its 50 years of racing experience and success, especially in the fields of aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fibre technology.
The result is a car that has an unprecedented amount of downforce for a road vehicle: similar levels to a GT3 racing car and yet with even greater ground effect. This downforce not only boosts cornering and braking performance. It also helps balance, stability and driveability at all speeds.
The car will also be in action along with the McLaren team from the UK and their chief test driver, Chris Goodwin, at Kyalami on the 11th of October. Not only will it be the first time the P1 is on the track in SA but MP4-12C and 650s owners will also be enjoying the full performance of their vehicles on the track – making this the largest number of McLarens in one place at one time. A sight not to be missed and the event is open to the public.
The McLaren P1™ uses an innovative IPAS petrol-electric powertrain comprising a substantially revised 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, coupled to a single electric motor, collectively known as M838TQ. Combined power output is 916 PS (903 hp). As important as absolute power is the electric motor’s ability to provide instant torque, making the powertrain superbly responsive. It is also amazingly efficient. Carbon dioxide emissions are less than 200g/km, and it can cover more than 10 km in electric-only mode.
Top speed is electronically limited to 350 km/h, with the 0-100 km/h standing start acceleration taking less than three seconds .The McLaren P1™ will power from rest to 200 km/h in less than seven seconds, and on to 300 km/h in less than 17 seconds – a full five seconds quicker than the McLaren F1.
Justin Divaris, CEO of the Daytona Group, expands: “The Rogue Rally is all about dream cars, and the car of every mans dream is the McLaren P1. We’ve brought it in especially for the Rogue Rally and with a torque that crushes competition we can’t wait to see what this incredible piece of machinery can do.”
